TREKKING EN TAYIKISTáN

Discovering Tajikistan’s hidden trails on your own is difficult,even unrealistic. We did a one-week trek in the Fann Mountains with Trek Tajikistan. It was excellent!!!! Communication beforehand with Shuhrat was fantastic - he was extremely responsive and gave great advice. The trek itself was wonderful. We were very well looked after by our guide, cook and donkey handler. (And thank you to the donkeys for carrying all our gear!) Food and camping equipment were top notch. We had 3 nights camping and 3 in guesthouses, which was a good mix. The scenery was amazing. The trek was quite challenging for us (in our sixties) but totally doable. Shuhrat met us at the end in Dushanbe and again proved to be super helpful sorting out accommodation for us when there was a problem with the hotel we had originally booked. I thoroughly recommend Trek Tajikistan for excellent service before, during and after our trek. Thank you, Shuhrat!

I crossed the Alps and the Dolomites for writing a book about the World War I and I learned how the men have adapted to the height of the mountains, to cold and snow. I love the mountains near my home, however I wanted to discover new landscapes. But to walk surrounded by lonely peaks is not the main aspect of my journeys. In my opinion it is more important to meet the people for knowing the places through their eyes and their words. I still remember the meeting managed by Shuhrat, our Tajik guide, with a family that in summer lives in a tent far from the village. I thought of the nomad shepherds that lived in the Middle Age along the Silk Road that pastured the sheeps for the wool, the cows for the milk and the meat and used the donkeys for carrying their things. The ability to adapt to this natural environment has extremely amazed me. We ate together some plov and bread cooked in the open air and we learned a lot about the lifestyle, the work, the culture of these amazing people. Mario

Shuhrat was a fantastic guide on what was a tough treck to the Lakes in the Pamirs. Wonderful scenery and great camp sites. Travel and home stays all efficiently arranged (the journey down to the Pamirs is an epic journey in itself) and when opportunities arose tea and yoghurt shared in remote herder's huts. Thoroughly recommend Treck Tajikistan for their efficiency and care. David

Five of us - mid to late sixties have just completed the Iskanderkul to Alauddin Lake hike. Challenging but rewarding with big climbs on four of the nine days. And a big thanks to Trek Tajikistan, Shuhrat and guide Bobo. We made it!

Unquestionably one of the highlights of a long trip through central Asia. We spent 3 days trekking with Shuhrat - eternally good humoured, knowledgable and curious in equal measure. The scenery is stunning and the walking just the right level of toughness. The locals that we stayed with went out of their way to make us comfortable. As did our driver Bobo. Really recommend these guys to trek with. And the Fann Mts are stunning... definitely go.

I chose this 6-day trek with Trek Tajikistan because I was interested in meeting the Yaghnob people (considered to be descendants of the Sogdian-speaking peoples who once inhabited most of Central Asia beyond the Amu Darya River). We stayed 2 nights in villages along the Yaghnob Valley before heading to Tagobikul Valley and then crossing into Ziddi Valley. The highlight of the trip for me was crossing the Leila Pass at 3,900 m and camping by Lailakul lakes at 3,400 m. If you are interesed in avoiding the more touristy areas and experiencing how people in remote mountainous villages live, then this is the one for you!

Unforgettable Pamir Lakes trek with Shuhrat! Writing this, I have a big happy smile on my face: what a great adventure, made easy thanks to Trektajikistan’s well documented website, excellent communication before the trip and good organisation, as well as the kindness of all people met on the way. There are two distinct parts to this trip: the drive to and from the Pamir mountain range, partly along the Pamir highway, with nights in homestays, which offers a great introduction to the people of Southern Tajikistan, and the trek itself, up to 4600 m, camping in very remote valleys, with no connectivity for several days. No need to be a mountaineer, but I would still recommend this mostly for experienced and fairly fit hikers. Thanks to Shuhrat, acclimatization to the altitude and any difficulties in terrain (Swiss grading T3 plus some river crossings :) ) were well managed, and we were also well nourished. I particularly loved the stunning campsites, where our camping equipment was carried by donkeys each day, as well as Shuhrat’s accounts of life in Tajikistan and the Pamirs.
